McDonald Branch Cattle Ranch is an operating organic ranch unique in that it is completely organic and stocked with the old Spanish line of livestock. The ranch has Piney Woods Cattle (at one time close to the largest herd in the country), sheep, goats and pigs relocated from a coastal area near Savannah, GA. The property is located just over an hour from Savannah in Screven County, which is half way between Savannah and Augusta, Georgia. The ranch is located at 904 Water Oak Road and Clay Hill Road close to the GA/SC border not far from the Savannah River.
The 474 +/- acre ranch is completely fenced and cross fenced ( approx. 6 miles of fence) with many pens for managing the assorted species of livestock. The philosophy of the ranch is a free range ranch mixed with timber production. Many of the pastures were pine timber stands that were groomed to open up grazing for livestock yet still have timber production. The livestock graze and keep vegetation down in the pine stands enhancing timber growth. The livestock grazed in these open timber stands produce lean healthy meat marketed in some of the finest restaurants in the southeast. The ranch also produces many eggs from an assortment of chickens and ducks.
If you are not interested in ranching, the property would be an excellent quail plantation. The spacing of the timber and various water sources throughout the property make this property perfect quail habitat. The miles of fencing are perfect for keeping your dogs safe and within the boundaries of the ranch. There is no predator problem on this property either. McDonald Branch winds through the center of the property which has large mature hardwood. Centrally located on the property, is a flat that periodically floods and holds a few wood ducks. The area is also known for producing a few trophy bucks and several flocks of turkeys have been seen around the property.
Access within the property is excellent with a boundary road to check fences and paved road frontage on one side and dirt on the other. Power is on the property in several areas and there is a 1,008 sq ft tenant house. Soils are excellent for timber, grazing and wildlife. This is a truly unique and diverse property we are very excited to share with you. Below are land breakdown and timber volumes that we hope are helpful in your decision making. Property taxes for 2014 were $4,280 and most of the property is in local CUVA easement. Property is gated and shown by appt only.
